DIY Swing Dress

I’m still in love with dresses and I found this dress from Merrick’s Art’s stash of DIY projects.

The inspiration for this look.

Inspiration – Merrick’s DIY Swing Dress

I originally found this on Pinterest and have admired this from afar and finally got the nerve to try it.

To make this dress, I followed Merrick’s instructions listed on her post.  The pictorial is pretty self explanatory.

I used the following materials:

  • Double knit fabric
  • V9075 bodice front/side front pieces, cut the front neckline slightly lower than the back & added 34′ to the length (back neckline to end of dress)
  • Self drafted the neck band, using reduced measurements from the outer neckline.  I ball-parked this to a size that was comfortable and looked flattering.
  • V9075 sleeve + 5′ to the length

I love how this double knit sews!  To change it up, I decided to use the wrong side as the right side.  I really liked the camo green on the wrong side vs the ribbed right side of this fabric.

I think this dress is perfect for cooler weather as well.  I can’t wait to pair this up with maybe some tights or with some neutral flats for work.
