[2nd EDITION] 4 Blogs I’m Obsessed With!

[2nd EDITION] 4 Blogs I’m Obsessed With!

I’ve been thinking of sharing more of my creative process and the things that motivate me.  I really enjoyed sharing my last list of blogs that inspire me, so I figured I would continue this and possibly make it a trend on A Fashion Addict.  I will share not only sewing blogs, but also sites, videos and other things that I’m digging.

The Sewing Blogosphere

In this blogosphere entrenched world, the resources are endless and once you find your unique ‘clique’ of blogs that you follow, it’s so easy to get – what I would call at my jobpigeonholed.  I really do enjoy personal style and fashion.  It’s ever – evolving.

Trends tend to fade over time, so things that inspire us.... change! :) Click To Tweet

My recent blog obsessions include:

Drumroll Please………….

#1 ConfessionI’ve fallen back in love with Mimi G Style!  She’s taken at-home sewing, blogging and blogging for business to whole new levels.  Mimi G was the first sewist that gave me the inkling that I could make my own clothes.  She inspired me to the point where I just downright copied several of her looks.

Peep them HERE & the remake HERE, HERE  & the remake HERE …. and you’ll want to see this one too from my first blog posts.  They were disasters!!  But, my start was definitely inspired by her posts and tutorials.

She’s got her own pattern making business now, designing and selling her own patterns.  She’s created a new blog with partner Tieko, where they show you how to style your everyday looks in different ways.  I love their momentum.  Finding someone that matches your passion, where you’re not competing with each other, but working together / blending forces to make something even GREATER…. They’re lucky.

Sometimes…. I envy those that can pursue their passions full time.  I started this blog as a means to escape from my 9-5 woes.  It’s been almost 2 years later and I’m still escaping those same woes, only it’s become harder now.  I’m blogging at work, fabric shopping from my phone, waking up in the middle of the night and either thinking about a sewing project or actually getting UP out of bed and going to my machine to work on one….  The struggle gets so real sometimes.

I try not to get caught up in what everyone is into all of the time.  I like to find my own beat… But Mimi G is a sewing IT-Girl. Click To Tweet  It is what it is 🙂

#2 Eryn, from Style Sew Me.  After I discovered that we’re both in the same area and we got a chance to meet each other, it helped me get out of this shell that I’ve created by using my laptop and social media to communicate with other bloggers & sewists.  Eryn’s blog is geared towards style and sewing on an everyday budget.  Who doesn’t love that?!  Her YouTube tutorials are very easy to follow and she’s just recently released her very first sewing pattern + tutorial combo.  She’s a tall chick, so if you’ve ever had to alter a commercial pattern because they just don’t fit, you should definitely check out her videos on how to alter/adjust patterns etc.

I am naturally kind of shy.  An extraverted introvert, I think is the actual term.  I really wish I could get the courage to pump out some tutorials on video too!  I want to…. But, it’s almost like a phobia that I have to get over!!!  arrrggh….. Seeing Eryn’s videos gives me hope though!  She’s really been able to expand her brand to video, which is really helpful – especially for those wanting to learn how to sew.

I plan on getting my sewing table this weekend!  No excuses.  I’ve been using a table that I’d rather not mention, but that’s what I’m telling myself…. no more excuses.  A legit table will help me set the stage for more to come on my own YouTube ChannelEek!

#3 Ruqayyah, from ReDpants Designs. For those that aren’t on the social media side of the sewing blogosphere, this is (I’m happy to say), another Texas girl!!  Based out of Houston, Ruqayyah, who has been sewing for 15 years now, is a force to be reckoned with.  She hosts a Facebook group for other sewists that encourages you to show off your work and to participate in group sewalongs.  This month the group is working on outerwear for the winter time.  I’ve been prepping to make my own winter coat and I just might join in with this project.

Something that I really admire about Ruqayyah is how active she is with other sewists, by joining in the ever sew popular Rippin’ Ain’t Easy sewing challenge (and doing VERY well in it!!), but she also provides a platform for others to do the same, in less formal group sewalongs.  I’m a fan of people helping others who share in the same passion.  She also sews a lot… most of these women do.  But, she makes me realize that I need to do more.  Just being honest…

Hands down – this girl’s got talent!  And…. I’m a huge fan of her blog too!  You’ve got to check out her entry for the R.A.E. ‘unconventional’ challenge this year!  She made a dress from pennies + newspaper clippings.  SERIOUSLY!!!  Do I see a future Project Runway Contestant??  I’m just sayin…. everybody ain’t able!

#4 Adrienne, from Sweenee Style.  I just discovered this blog, even though I’ve seen her pics on Pinterest for the longest!!  Sweenee is blogger that loves style and fashion.  She throws some of the cutest outfits together!  Some stuff, I’d never think to put together – mixed prints on top of other prints, ie cheetah + camo >> say wha?? But it looks sooooo cute!

I love her BOLDNESS!  Talk about ‘dare to be different’!  I love it.  The courage to go there!  And rock it with ease.  Now that I’ve found this blog, I plan on stalking it revisiting often for style tips!

For my personal style, I would absolutely love to be more outgoing.  Some people have an eye for mixin’ and matching and Sweenee has it!

My corporate job has me conditioned to have “TAKEAWAYS” after each meeting and my takeaways from all this blog hopping is:

  1. get my sewing table.
  2. cut my pattern pieces for my coat (fabric was delivered today!!  I’m getting my lining fabric tomorrow 🙂 )
  3. catch up on some requests for tutorials.

Keep ya posted!

xoxo

From one corporate girl to another…I hear ya! I’ve evolved my style to be classic with a bit of edge. No more boring gray – black – pinstripes for me. Most of what I sew…gets worn to work and I luv it. Venita – SewVeStyle

Yes! Typical (historical) clothes for corp women is so bland! I’m glad to hear that you’re revamping your wardrobe to include more color and your personality too! It’s a good feeling!

Thanks so much for sharing/commenting, Ventana 🙂

Thank you so much for the shout-out, Nikki! What an honor! Believe or not, I’m a classic introvert, too! We are >>here<<. It's just that when I talk sewing, I love it so much I can't shut up about it. LOL

Keep doing what you're doing, while still challenging yourself to find your own space and stride in this thing!
