My ‘Miss Celie’s Pants’

My ‘Miss Celie’s Pants’

If you don’t know this term, you’ve been living under a rock.

The Color Purple is one of my all time favorite movies. I saw it hundreds of times as a child, have the DVD and have seen the Broadway play TWICE. (once on Broadway with my mommy and grandmother – it was AMAZING).

I’ve been in a bit of a sewing slump lately and to get a kick start back into the swing of things I decided to make some pants! I’ve been holding onto about 5 yards of this 4-way stretch knit (similar here) that I ordered from Girl Charlee Fabrics since the beginning of summer.

I chose to make McCalls Pattern M6514, View B.  I made a similar pair, with wide legs that I absolutely LOVE!  This is a great pattern that be worn several ways.

What I like about this pant is the front pleats, which don’t really show up in a busy fabric (note to self).  This is perfect for a casual day.

You can wear these pants with flats or with heels.

Tip:  The pattern is naturally long for my 5’5 frame, so I would suggest altering the length of this pattern as needed, if you plan on wearing flats… like me 🙂

Now that you’ve seen the pants, they do kind of resemble Miss Celie’s pants, right?

As soon as I put them on, I instantly thought….

Outfit details: Jean Jacket, Gap (old, similar here); Pants, #MadeByMe; Sandals, Famous Footwear (old); Handbag, TJ Maxx

So maybe I exaggerated a little, but this does make me want to watch The Color Purple… right now!

Your pants are really cute! The Color Purple ranks pretty high on my movie list. I didn’t get a chance to see it on broadway. Thanks for the you tube clip lol

I’ve never heard them called Miss Celie’s Pants–never connected these with the play/movie. But I love them, making a few pair for myself. Cute and comfy and easy peasy to make.
