DIY Jacket/Dress – V8825 Pattern Hack

DIY Jacket/Dress – V8825 Pattern Hack

Style Inspired DIY Jacket/Dress

DIY Ankara Jacket Dress

A few months ago I saw this gorgeous jacket on social media! I saved the pic to my phone and immediately sought out to find some Ankara (African print) fabric so I could make my own version of this jacket.

You know how it is when you’re on a fabric-buying-mission?  Especially, when online shopping is so easy these days 🙂

I immediately found this fabric from an ETSY Store.

My secret to making this look – I used V8825 for the bodice, shortened the tie in half and pleated the skirt.  I measured down 4 inches from the waist and used V9075 pocket pattern for the pocket. I also added 4 inch vents to each arm, so I can roll up the sleeves once the weather warms up.

The best part = It can be worn TWO ways!

I have tons of Ankara print items saved on my phone! My inspiration pieces. A jacket very similar to this is one of them! I have plenty of African fabrics so now I just have to decide which one to use!! Thank you for the sew-along. As a VERY new sewist, I didn’t know how i was going to re-create this look. It would be great if you could upload some of the actual sewing of the pattern to You Tube for us visual learners!!
    Again, thank you!

      Hi Kenya,

Thanks so much for the feedback! I will definitely post videos of the actual steps (including sewing).

I love Ankara prints!!! It’s not my favorite to work with, but it’s so pretty! :-please

Thanks again for the feedback. No more excuses – I will work on more videos overall.

      Xoxo!
