Style Inspired DIY Jacket/Dress
A few months ago I saw this gorgeous jacket on social media! I saved the pic to my phone and immediately sought out to find some Ankara (African print) fabric so I could make my own version of this jacket.
You know how it is when you’re on a fabric-buying-mission? Especially, when online shopping is so easy these days 🙂
- 4 yds of Fabric – 45 in fabric (refer HERE for Fabric Conversions); FOUND HERE similar HERE & HERE
- Fabric Scissors
- Matching Thread
- Universal Needle
- An Iron
My secret to making this look – I used V8825 for the bodice, shortened the tie in half and pleated the skirt. I measured down 4 inches from the waist and used V9075 pocket pattern for the pocket. I also added 4 inch vents to each arm, so I can roll up the sleeves once the weather warms up.
The best part = It can be worn TWO ways!
Tips for sewing what you see:
- Don’t be intimidated.
- Just go for it!!

Obviously it can be done, so just take your time and walk through it.
I am SO happy that I tried this jacket!! It was so much easier than I thought it would be. I love it!!!
Until next time…..
