I have been extremely absent lately. Absent from sewing, posting and all things in between.
I think I go through periods of time where I obsess about different things and then when I’m done, I obsess about something new… my recent obsession consists of catching back up on old Game of Thrones seasons. Over the last few weeks, I’ve watched seasons 1 -3 and I’m so into it, I plan on re-watching all other seasons. It’s pretty bad.
I come home from work, eat dinner with my family, catch up on other projects that I’m working on & then I watch GOT, sleep and do it all over again. I’ve even cut out my reality shows!!
Today’s post is all about sewing on trend.
The Bell Sleeve Obsession.
The fabric choice is from Mood Fabrics, a Cotton-Poly Jacquard that sews up very easily, with no issue of fraying. This material has a slight stretch that works well for dress-wear.
To convert this top into a dress, I made the following alterations:
- Added 2.5′ to the sleeve length
- Added 10′ to the length of both front/back bodice pieces
- Added a facing for the neckline
- Added darts to either side of the center back seam, to create a sheath shaping
To create the Pleated Sleeves:
- Cut 5′ x 32′ to create the box pleats and then cut off the excess once I matched the seams to the sleeve length
I added a hook & eye to close the ends of the neckline by handstitching in place after added in the facing. I hemmed the sleeves and the bottom of the dress and viola! That was it.
I love the effect that darts can have! This was actually pretty boxy until I used darts to pull in the sides and it gave this such a cute shape.
Until next time…..
